Networking – Working together for Educational Research

VerbundFDB aims to collaborate with other research data centres in education to set up and enhance joint services for researchers in education.

To this end, annual networking events are organised.

You are welcome to contact us if you would like to collaborate!

Networking events

Fourth network meeting (2020)

The fourth meeting took place on 22 April 2020, to discuss the joint activities of the network in the project period until 2021.This meeting was virtual.

Third network meeting (2019)

The third meeting was held in Berlin on April 11, 2019.

Focus of the second network meeting: Types of access and contracts for data usage.

Second network meeting (2018)

The second meeting was held in Berlin on April 27, 2018.

Focus of the second network meeting: Selection and evaluation of research data

Moreover, news and developments in the Research data Alliance were reported for 2017 and results of the working group on metadata were presented.

First networking event (2017)

On March 29, 2017, VerbundFDB invited representatives from other educational research data centres and respective research institutes to a first meeting, to exchange ideas about the setup of joint venture services for educational researchers.

Focus of the first meeting: Harmonising metadata in educational research.

The aim is to increase visibility and findability of research data which are held in different locations.

The fourth meeting took place on 22 April 2020, to discuss the joint activities of the network in the project period until 2021.This meeting was virtual.

Working groups

Metadata working group (since 2017)

In the working group metadata, representatives from research data centres (RDC) are working on harmonizing the metadata sets and schemas used by different RDC. The aim is to achieve a high and comparable quality. On the other hand, an automatic import of metadata from the various RDC into the portal forschungsdaten-bildung.de is projected via technical interfaces. Educational researchers will thus be able to find data at a central location, regardless of where they are archived.

Working group terms of use (since 2019)

If the research data centre and researchers agree on the archiving of project data, they will define mutual rights and obligations in a data use agreement, the General Terms and Conditions (GTC) or in licences. The concrete written form of the terms of use varies from research data centre/institution to institution. In order to standardize terms of use, the working group prepares exemplary formulations in terms of modular text blocks. These can be individually compiled according to requirements. In this way, research data centres receive assistance in formulating the subject matter of the contract (e.g. data use, useful life), for rights and obligations (e.g. anonymisation, data security), and for final provisions (e.g. research results). The text modules support research data centres in defining guidelines and regulations within the framework of their data provision processes or in developing their own terms of use respectively adapting existing ones.
