Meet-the-data event series

The meet-the-data @educational research event series features researchers and data stewards from Research Data Centers presenting selected datasets. They answer questions such as: What analytical potential does the data offer? What research questions have already been addressed with it? How can I gain access to the data?

The series is aimed at researchers and students who either want an initial introduction to the data or would like the opportunity to ask their own questions to the experts. To the meet-the-data event series

Some Research Data Centers also offer in-depth workshops on selected datasets.

RDC Workshops on data use and data analysis

Research Data Centers offer advanced workshops on selected datasets, addressing questions around data usage and analysis.

Examples include:

Workshops on research data management

Workshop: Introduction to research data management for empirical educational research

Format: Two-day workshop

Target group: Researchers in educational research

Date: To be determined

Location: GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences, Cologne

Research data management in empirical educational research presents specific challenges—such as anonymization of personal data, data archiving, and reuse. This workshop aims to raise awareness among researchers and strengthen their competencies in responsible data management.

This workshop, held annually since 2015, covers key principles such as data licensing, data protection, and ethics in reuse. Topics include documentation methods, file formats, secure storage, and archiving. The goal is to provide participants with hands-on support in drafting data management plans and preparing data for long-term preservation and reuse.

Train-the-trainer workshops

Target audience: Educators and advisors in research data management within educational research

Date: To be determined

Location: GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences, Cologne

The aim of this workshop is to empower educators to pass on their acquired knowledge within their institutions, project networks, or professional communities. This contributes to greater awareness of the importance of research data management and promotes long-term integration of standards across the research landscape.

Participants will be equipped to lead training and advisory sessions on research data management topics such as:

  • The role of research data management in research projects
  • Data management plans and the data lifecycle
  • Documentation methods for research and data
  • Data sharing, licensing, reuse, and long-term archiving in educational research
  • Ethical standards, participant rights, and copyright in Germany
  • Roles and responsibilities of project stakeholders in research data management

Following the workshops, we offer optional follow-up meetings with participants to stay connected with multipliers and evaluate the implementation of teaching outcomes.
